You install POS systems? This failure arrives in waves
If you install or maintain tills that run in a browser, you have probably already taken several identical calls: "receipts stopped coming out, we didn't touch anything". It is not the hardware, not the POS software, and not a mistake by your client. This page saves you the diagnosis time.
What is actually happening
Browsers have closed the path online POS software used to talk to the printing utility installed on the station. The timeline is public:
| Browser | Blocks since | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Google Chrome | 142 (then 147 for WebSocket) | 28 Oct 2025 · 7 Apr 2026 |
| Microsoft Edge | 143.0.3650.66 | 4 Dec 2025 |
| Mozilla Firefox | 153 | 21 Jul 2026 |
Each station switches over when its browser updates. Hence the effect you see in the field: a wave spread out, client by client, station by station, with no apparent logic. The sourced detail is on our version-by-version table.
The symptom that costs you time: the blocking is completely silent. No error on screen, no entry in the POS logs, and the Windows test print works perfectly. That is what leads people to replace the printer, then the cable, then reinstall the utility — with no result.
Diagnose in ten seconds, at the client's site
Our free tester runs in the station's browser, with nothing to install: it shows the machine reaching the internet yet unable to reach its own system. You are welcome to use it on your call-outs, even if you do not work with us.
Two ways to fix it
- ✔ For free, through enterprise policy. On a managed fleet, the LocalNetworkAccessAllowedForUrls policy exempts the POS domain. We document it in full and for free, limitations included. If that is your case, help yourself: you do not need us.
- ✔ With our extension, when the station is unmanaged, the client has no administrator rights, or printing has to be back within the hour. Installs from the official catalogues, enabled in one click, no special rights, and it survives browser updates.
Licences for several stations
The licence is lifetime and applies per till station: €59 incl. VAT each, €129 incl. VAT for a pack of three. To equip a fleet of clients, write to us with the number of stations: we will reply with a suitable proposal and the procedure for a grouped deployment.
What we do not do
We do not cold-call anyone and we do not resell any data. We are not affiliated with any POS vendor: if yours publishes its own fix, use it. Our solution is for the setups that path does not cover, and for tills whose vendor has published nothing yet.
